I made this image of my own family last holiday season. I was in the backyard and could see the three of them through the lit windows. It reminded me of a Hopper piece. I've always loved a voyeuristic approach to photography: looking through a doorway into a room where a new mother is nursing her baby, shooting into the bathroom from the other room at my husband teaching my son to shave, shooting from above into a room where people are interacting with one another. It shows a scene. It's effect is cinematic. Hopper's work provides that same appeal for me. It has the same appeal for lots of people, actually. It's widely believed that Alfred Hitchcock was inspired by Edward Hopper. If you compare movie stills and sets to certain Hopper paintings, you can certainly see the influence.
If you have the desire and the space to create an image like this of your family or friends, please get in touch with me soon. It doesn't have to be Christmas-y, it doesn't even have to be your home, and it can be funny, staged, natural, sweet...anything!
This is a great way to document both your people and your space.
1.It's socially distant. I work from outside, and we can communicate over the phone to set up the image.
2. It's affordable, because I'm only creating one image (unless you want more.) We can figure that out.
3. It's different. 2020 is already an un usual year, to say the least. Let's create an unusual image for posterity.
4. Bonus, you don't have to leave your house if you don't want to!
$195 for the shoot and the high. res. digital file
How to know if your space will work...
You likely have a good location for this type of shoot if you have multiple windows/glass doors visible on one side of the house and if the outside of the house gives me enough space to frame the whole scene in one shot.
One really large window or a group of windows together can also work. We would perhaps just have to keep everyone in the same room for your photo.
A storefront or window into a restaurant can work, too, but this may present challenges in terms of getting permissions. Additionally, there may be other people in your photo, so this would be best if you, say, own a store or restaurant.
